  3. Children’s Division

The Children’s Division is suitable for children ages 2 years to 10 years old. Central Texas Youth Ballet’s Children’s Division helps promote early childhood development while exploring the concepts of dance. By focusing on the essence of movement first, we build a solid foundation for the skills and movements needed to advance our specialized dance skills in any style of dance. Students are also taught classroom etiquette/discipline and placed in a fun environment that helps to improve concentration and listening skills while encouraging creativity and group interaction. Students ages two to nine are eligible to participate in our Children’s Division; classes include Discover Dance and Primary Ballet.

Our Discover Dance classes are a series of movement classes designed to introduce children to the creative and expressive world of dance. Each stage of the program offers children the opportunity to develop their natural movement ability in a multi-sensory environment. Music, movement, visuals, and props will enhance your dancer’s love of the art form and the unique conceptual approach to dance education will provide a strong foundation for technical and cognitive growth.

Primary Ballet consists of levels: Primary 1, Primary 2, and Primary 3. Our Primary classes develop poise and musicality in a fun and creative environment while instilling a love of dance and creative expression. Students will be introduced to movement at the ballet barre to help develop correct posture and ballet technique. Basic centre exercises will help develop balance, strength and coordination. Students begin to learn French vocabulary, movement expression and proper ballet etiquette in a non-competitive atmosphere.

PRE-BALLET

Ages 5 - 6

Pre-Ballet serves as a prelude to formal ballet instruction with the aim to teach ballet with age-appropriate child development in mind. This levels’ dance activities and classes are story-based and introduce ballet through the classical story ballets in a way that inspires children to love ballet and its rich tradition. Students begin to learn French vocabulary, movement expression and proper ballet etiquette in a non-competitive atmosphere.

PRIMARY BALLET

Ages 6-10

Primary Ballet places strong emphasis on developing basic ballet technique and consists of levels: Primary 1, Primary 2, and Primary 3.Students progress through these levels as through grades in any school; however, students move at different rates. Advancement is based on ability, not age. Some spend years in one level while the mind and body learn to work together; others may progress more quickly. When a student has learned the ballet technique appropriate for each level and the body has become strong enough to accomplish those movements, the student is then moved to the next level at the discretion of the School Director with consultation from the faculty.

Primary Ballet students have the option to participate in an accelerated track that prepares them for admission into the Academy.

Primary Ballet is suitable for students 6 to 10 years of age by September 1.
